Selection of temporary workforce recommendations

 

The WA Electoral Commission is committed to reviewing current recruitment processes, minimum qualification and experience standards and training and education requirements for all Temporary Election Workers. The importance of prior experience as well as the knowledge and experience of Returning Officers is also acknowledged. New minimum standards will give consideration to the identified areas of improvement in the Special Inquiry.

Recommendation 7

Returning Officers should be given the right to nominate the Temporary Election Workers they consider (based on their experience) suitable for specific Polling Places in their District.

Recommendation 8

All Temporary Election Workers should be interviewed to ensure they have a reasonable command of the English language and an understanding of the election process and their duties.

Recommendation 9

Temporary Election Workers with previous experience should be recorded on a centralised register maintained by The WA Electoral Commission and used to assist in choosing (or rejecting) Temporary Election Workers for the next election.
