Facilities at polling places recommendations

 

The WA Electoral Commission acknowledges concerns raised in the Special Inquiry regarding the appropriateness of polling place facilities and communication tools to manage issues on the day. The WA Electoral Commission will begin planning processes earlier to ensure fit for purpose polling places. The recommendations for laptops, mobile phones and printing devices will also be considered as part of the ongoing funding model for the WA Electoral Commission.

Recommendation 19

All Polling Places should have toilet facilities for staff and accessible to the public with shade and shelter and be reasonably close to parking.

Recommendation 20

All Presiding Officers should be provided with laptops to enable speedy search of the electoral roll and eliminate the need for separate declaration queues.

Polling Places should be provided with printers to enable printing of Legislative Assembly ballot papers to respond to ballot paper shortages in a timely manner.
