South Metropolitan Region
On 12 February 2025, the Electoral Commissioner was informed by His Excellency the Governor that the Hon. Stephen Pratt MLC, member for the South Metropolitan Region, had resigned and his position had become vacant.
The vacancy was advertised on 24 March 2025 in The West Australian and on the Commission’s website.
Nominations were open until 12.00 noon, Wednesday 2 April 2025 for qualified persons.
A qualified person, in relation to a vacancy, means a person who —
a. was a candidate at the original election;
b. did not withdraw from, and was not elected at, that election;
c. has not become a member of the Council since that election; and
d. is qualified to be elected and is not disqualified from being elected as a member of the Council.
Close of Nominations
At the close of nominations, there was only one nomination from a qualifying candidate for the South Metropolitan Region – Ms Victoria Helps from WA Labor.
Results
On Wednesday 2 April 2025 at 2pm, Ms Victoria Helps was declared elected to fill the vacancy in the Legislative Council for the remainder of the current term, which expires on 21 May 2025.
