The WAEC welcomes new leadership team

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Dennis O’Reilly to the WA Electoral Commission as our acting Electoral Commissioner.

Dennis brings more than 30 years’ experience in the public sector with a wealth of expertise and proficiency in service delivery, stakeholder relations and governance from his previous roles as Deputy Director General Strategy and Performance at the Department of Water and Environment, and Executive Director Regional Services at Department of Transport.

His strong vision and commitment will be invaluable as we prepare for the delivery of local government elections in October.

“I am honoured to join the WA Electoral Commission as the acting Electoral Commissioner,” Dennis said.

"I’m really excited about the next few months and look forward to working with the team as we prepare for and deliver the local government elections in October ensuring we meet the needs of communities across WA."

Working alongside Dennis will be Rebecca Hamilton, who will assume the role of Deputy Electoral Commissioner from 30 June.

Rebecca brings extensive experience in leading change in a broad range of program and policy areas from previous senior roles with Treasury, Premier and Cabinet, Health, Corrective Services and most recently the Road Safety Commission.

”It is a great privilege to have the opportunity to work with Dennis and the team at the Commission. I look forward to contributing to the delivery of the upcoming local government elections and working with the dedicated team of people at the Commission and in the community that make that happen”.

The appointments of Dennis O’Reilly and Rebecca Hamilton will remain in effect until 31 December 2025. Their combined expertise and fresh perspectives will strengthen the WA Electoral Commission’s capacity to serve the community and deliver electoral experiences that Western Australians trust and understand.
