UPDATE 3:30pm
Thanks to the efforts of the WA Electoral Commission’s delivery partner, the counting of ballot papers and declaration of results for the Shire of Wyndham-East Kimberley extraordinary local government election will go ahead tonight as previously planned.
Counting will commence after polls close at 6:00 pm and results will be declared after the count has been completed.
Statement:
Due to unforeseen events, a number of postal ballot papers for the Shire of Wyndham-East Kimberley extraordinary local government election will not reach the count centre in Kununurra by 6:00 pm today. Therefore, it will not be possible to count the ballot papers and declare the results of the election tonight as anticipated.
The ability of electors to cast their vote has not been impacted and polls will still close at 6.00 pm today.
The WA Electoral Commission and the Shire of Wyndham-East Kimberley have jointly determined that the vote count will now commence at 8:00 am Wednesday 17 April 2024, with the results to be declared after the count has been completed.
The Commission apologises for the inconvenience this has caused to the Shire’s electors and the candidates.
