Local government election results declared

Final results for the 2023 local government elections have been published on the WA Electoral Commission website, following the declaration of results in the City of Swan.

The Commission was engaged by 124 local governments across Western Australia to run their elections.

Electoral Commissioner Robert Kennedy thanked the Western Australian community for their support and participation throughout the electoral process.

“This was the first time optional preferential voting was used in local government elections, following recent legislative reforms, and the more complex counting process meant it took longer to declare results than in previous elections.

“Thank you to community members, candidates and local governments for your patience throughout the election and counting process.

“Delivering elections is a significant undertaking and we simply couldn’t do it without our wonderful team. I would like to acknowledge all Electoral Commission staff for your hard work and commitment.

“I’d also like to extend a massive shout out to all those who participated by voting in the local government elections. Your vote matters.”

This year Western Australia local government elections achieved a voter turnout rate of 31.6% of eligible community members. This is an increase on participation in past elections (30.2% in 2021 and 29.07% in 2019).
