On Wednesday 29 September 2021, the WA Electoral Commission was advised by the WA Police that they had apprehended two individuals allegedly stealing local government postal vote packages from letter boxes in the Byford area, within the Shire of Serpentine-Jarrahdale.
The Western Australian Electoral Commission is working with the WA Police on this matter but given it is under police investigation, the Commission will make no comment concerning those allegedly involved.
The Commission has initiated action to cancel the postal vote packages in possession of the police and arrange for the issue of replacement postal vote packages to the affected electors. These will arrive in the mail early next week.
While voting at local government elections is not compulsory, given the importance of local government to our everyday lives it is strongly encouraged. Electors intending to vote should ensure their package is posted in time to reach the Returning Officer by election day, Saturday 16 October 2021. Alternatively, electors can hand deliver their completed package to the ballot box at their Council Office during normal business hours or on Saturday 16 October, between 8.00am and 6.00pm.
