Last chance to submit your local government election package

Media Release Date
Wednesday, 15 October, 2025

The Western Australian Electoral Commission (WAEC) is reminding all eligible electors that time is running out to return your postal voting package for the 2025 Local government elections, scheduled for this Saturday, 18 October 2025.

Local government elections are primarily conducted by postal vote, and all completed ballot papers must be received by 6:00pm on election day to be counted.

With the deadline fast approaching, voters are urged to submit their completed packages today to ensure their vote is included.

For electors in regional WA where post may take longer, the WAEC recommends dropping off your completed voting package at your local government office either during regular office hours or on election day from 8am to 6pm.

If you haven't received your postal voting pack, visit your local government office and request a replacement. You can complete and submit your vote on the spot.

Acting Electoral Commissioner Dennis O’Reilly said the Commission is working hard to ensure every vote counts:
“We urge voters to act now and return their completed packages as soon as possible,” Mr O’Reilly said.

“Every vote matters and we want to make sure all electors have the opportunity to participate in shaping their local communities.”

Election results publication:

For the first time, provisional results will begin to be published on the WA Electoral Commission website after the close of voting on Saturday. These early results will be provided to keep electors, candidates and local governments informed while formal counting and verification processes continue.

Final results will be published once declared by the Returning Officer.

Results will be available at: elections.wa.gov.au.

In-person elections will be held for the Shires of Broome; Christmas Island; Cuballing; Dalwallinu; Derby-West Kimberley; Halls Creek; Laverton; Meekatharra; Menzies; Mt Magnet; Wagin; Waroona.
