The Western Australian Electoral Commission (WAEC) has identified a small number of isolated issues affecting postal voting packages sent out for the 2025 Local Government Elections, scheduled for Saturday 18 October.
To date, more than 1.7 million postal vote packs have been distributed across Western Australia. While the vast majority of electors have received the correct materials, a limited number of issues have been reported.
Identified issues include:
- Incorrect ballot papers
A small number of electors have received incorrect or incomplete ballot papers for the wrong ward
or district.
- Illegible return addresses on reply-paid envelopes
A small number of electors have received reply-paid envelopes printed with unclear return address
information.
- Pre-sealed return envelopes
A small number of electors have reported receiving reply-paid envelopes that were pre-sealed upon
arrival.
These issues have now been resolved with replacement voting materials already dispatched to affected electors.
Acting Electoral Commissioner Dennis O’Reilly reassured the public that the WAEC has worked diligently to resolve these matters.
“While these issues are limited in scope, we understand the importance of ensuring every eligible elector can participate in the upcoming Local Government Elections,” Mr O’Reilly said.
“We continue to actively work with our suppliers and Local Governments to ensure the election runs as smoothly as possible.”
The WAEC has established a dedicated Helpline for affected electors seeking advice or assistance. For more information, electors can call the WAEC Helpline on 9214 7220 or visit elections.wa.gov.au
