Western Australians are urged to make sure their electoral enrolment details are up to date, ahead of 15 extraordinary local government elections being held around WA in March and April.
The WA Electoral Commission will be conducting extraordinary elections (new elections) in the below local government areas. To vote, eligible community members must be on the electoral roll by the close of rolls deadline.
Local government | Last day to enrol | Election day |
Halls Creek, Port Hedland, Three Springs, Yalgoo | 11 January | 8 March |
Boddington | 12 January | 9 March |
Brookton | 17 January | 14 March |
Ashburton (Tom Price Ward), Bayswater (North Ward), East Pilbara (East Ward), Merredin, Mosman Park, Sandstone | 18 January | 15 March |
Broome, Serpentine Jarrahdale (North Ward) | 29 January | 23 March |
Wyndham-East Kimberley | 15 February | 12 April |
Local government extraordinary elections are being held in these areas due to the departure of a sitting council member or because there weren’t enough candidates contesting the ordinary local government elections in October.
“Local governments play a significant role in people’s day to day lives, so if there’s an extraordinary election happening in your community, make sure you’re enrolled to vote so you can have your say,” said WA Electoral Commissioner Robert Kennedy. “If you’ve turned 18 recently, you’ve moved house or maybe you’re just not sure whether your enrolment details are up to date, jump on the WA Electoral Commission website to update your details.”
