Nominations open for local government candidates

Candidate nominations are open for local government elections being held across Western Australia this October.

“Nominations for candidates in the 2023 local government elections are open from now until 4 pm, Thursday 7 September,” said Electoral Commissioner Robert Kennedy.

“Stepping up for a seat on local government council is an important way of making a positive difference in your community and eligible people of all ages, backgrounds and perspectives are encouraged to run for council.”

Local government elections will take place on Saturday 21 October. For councils holding postal elections, election packages (ballots) will be mailed out in late September.

The 2021 local government elections were contested by 821 candidates vying for 384 vacancies across Western Australia.
