Candidates confirmed for Rockingham by-election

 

A field of nine candidates will contest the Rockingham District by-election on Saturday 29 July 2023.

Following a random draw conducted by the Returning Officer, candidates will appear on the ballot paper as follows:

  1. MARSHALL, Magenta
    WA Labor
  2. COTTAM, Rae
    Legalise Cannabis Western Australia Party
  3. HUDSON, Peter
    Liberal Party
  4. KNAPP, Janetia
  5. DE JONG, Madeleine
    The Greens (WA)
  6. GALLETLY, Clive
    Independent
  7. EDWARDS, Hayley
    Independent
  8. CRICHTON, Mike
    Australian Christians
  9. DUNNE, Peter D
    Independent

“As with all State elections, it’s compulsory for eligible electors to vote in the Rockingham by-election and there are a range of voting options to help people elect their new local member,” WA Electoral Commissioner Robert Kennedy said.

“You can vote in-person on polling day on Saturday 29 July. If you can’t attend on polling day, or choose not to, you can cast an early vote in person from 12 July or apply for a postal vote.”

A full list of polling places for electors to vote in in the Rockingham district on polling day will be published on the Commission’s website.

  • Early voting from Wednesday 12 July

There will be early voting locations in the Rockingham area, Perth city centre and for enrolled electors who are interstate, in other Australian States and Territories to vote in person prior to polling day.

A full list of early voting locations will be published on the Commission’s website closer to the period of early voting commencing.

  • Apply for a postal vote

Applications for postal votes are open now and close at 6pm Wednesday 26 July 2023.

Apply for a postal vote online or phone the WA Electoral Commission on 13 63 06.

Postal votes must be received by the WA Electoral Commission by 9am Thursday 3 August to be included in the count.

Quick Facts

  • Candidate nominations closed at midday today.
  • The draw to determine the order of candidates on the ballot paper was conducted by the Returning Officer at the Gary Holland Community Centre at 19 Kent Street, Rockingham soon after the close of nominations.
  • At the 2021 State general election there were six candidates for the District of Rockingham.
  • Electoral roll enrolment for this by-election closed on 16 June, with 30,213 people eligible to vote.
