Nominations Open for 2021 Local Government Elections

Media Release Date
Friday, 3 September, 2021

Nominations for 2021 local government elections have opened today - 2 September 2021.

Community members interested in joining their local government council have one week to nominate – with the closing date 4pm Thursday 9 September.

Electoral Commissioner Robert Kennedy encouraged any community member interested in making decisions affecting their local area to nominate. “Every day your lives are influenced by your local government; when your children play at a community park, your footpath gets fixed, your rubbish is collected, you borrow a library book, build a front fence or register your dog or cat – that is a small sample of local government at work.”

You can influence how those things … and many more … get done by getting elected to council and now is the time to do it”. “Elections will be held in October this year but to make an election you need candidates” said Mr Kennedy.

You must be 18 years old and live in your local government area or be on that local government’s owner and occupier roll. Anyone thinking about nominating can visit elections.wa.gov.au or contact their local government. The Commissioner is available for interview for the media from Friday 3 September 2021.
